Homework
At Thamesview School, we believe homework plays a vital role in reinforcing learning and promoting independent study skills. All homework set is designed to be meaningful and focused on retrieval practice – the act of bringing information to mind from memory.
Retrieval Practice and the Forgetting Curve
Retrieval practice is crucial because it combats the "forgetting curve," a concept developed by psychologist Hermann Ebbinghaus. This curve illustrates how quickly we forget information if we don't actively engage with it again. By revisiting and retrieving information through homework, students significantly improve their retention and understanding.
How Homework is Communicated and Submitted
All homework assignments are communicated to students through MCAS (My Child At School). While MCAS is the central hub, students may need to use other online platforms or submit hard copies depending on the subject and specific task. Teachers will provide clear instructions on where to access resources and how to submit completed work.
Our Aim
Ultimately, our goal is to make homework a valuable tool that supports classroom learning, strengthens memory, and helps every student reach their full potential.
